Atlantic City Gaming Facilities Facing Increase Gaming Competition

Atlantic City used to be the place where the likes of Sammy Davis Jr. and the legendary Frank Sinatra used to hang out with their friends. Now, the biggest thing happening for New Jersey is an MTV show in Seaside Heights.

In January 2010, casino gaming revenue dropped in Atlantic City casinos for the 17th straight month. It was another sign of how things are changing across the casino market in the northeast. Casino facilities in Atlantic City won $294.2 million in January.

That figure dropped by 8.5 percent from the same period in 2009. Back then, the figure was down from the same time in 2007. It is an alarming pattern that is happening too often these days. The last time that AC casino facilities saw an improvement in revenue was back in August 2008.

That is a long time for a gaming market that is facing an increasing gaming competition from many of its adjacent states. In the state of Pennsylvania, legislators approved casino table games for their slots casinos on January 20th, 2010.

Pennsylvania slot machine gaming revenue was bigger compared with New Jersey's slot machine revenue for the first time ever in December 2009 and it is likely just the beginning of the many gaming changes that may happen in the market.
