Baccarat Rules

In Baccarat, the object of the game is to reach the number 9 (without exceeding it) or as close to that total as you can, using no more than 3 cards.

• The cards 2-9 have their regular values.
• The value of ace is 1.
• The value of 10s and face cards is 0.
• When the value of 2 cards exceeds 9, then you deduct 10 from the total. For instance, a 4 and an 8 equals 12, which means you should subtract 10, leaving you with 2. For each hand you can take no more than 3 cards. If a player's first 2 cards exceed a total of 5, he may not take an additional card.

In Baccarat, a natural hand is one that reaches the amount of 8 or 9 with only 2 cards. Once a player has a natural hand, a third card can not be taken by the dealer and vice versa. A natural hand wins over all others. Of course, a natural 9 is the best possible hand.

How to Play Baccarat

For the most part, Baccarat is played with either 6 or 8 card decks. The cards are shuffled and placed in the shoe by the dealer who deals 2 hands, the banker hand or the player hand. Bets are placed on either hand or on a tie before the hands are dealt. The players alternate in dealing from the shoe. When a table is filled, there are 3 dealers. The dealer in the center is the caller. The caller's duty is to call every hand's total and decide on the 3rd card selections in accordance with the designated Baccarat rules.

No matter who the dealer is, the one who deals has the banker role. When online gambling, in the case of Baccarat, a virtual dealer deals the cards. The same number of hands and cards are dealt to the player and the banker, 2 hands and 2 cards. Then, bets are placed on who will win the hand - the player, the banker, or a tie. When the dealing is done, the highest hand wins. The casino dealers collect the bets that won after the bets that lost.

The attempted bet n a winning hand is actually the only choice a player has to make in this game. According to Baccarat rules, the player's hand must stay if the 2 initial cards amount to 6 or above. In the case that the 2 initial cards amount to 0-5, the player gets an additional card added to his hand.

The Baccarat dealer really doesn't have to be very decisive either. If a player's initial 2 cards amount to 6 or more, the banker takes a 3rd card only in the case that the initial 2 cards amount to 5 or less. If not, the banker's hand remains at 2 cards.

If the player's hand needs a 3rd card, the banker's hand will draw every time in the case that the initial 2 cards amount to 0-2. If the initial 2 cards amount to 7 or above, the banker's hand will invariably stand. With the banker's hands that amount to 3-6, the choice of whether or not to pull a 3rd card depends upon the 3rd card of the player.

Although these Baccarat rules may seem complex, the good news is that you don't actually have to remember them since the dealer is the one who decides about the players' and the bankers' hands, as well as calling the totals. Hence your only responsibility is betting.
