Baccarat Pushes Macau Casino Profit to New Heights

On July 21st, 2008, baccarat is the main driving force on Macau's casino revenue growth. Total sales in the Chinese enclave improved by forty-eight percent in the second quarter of the year, according to the reports released by the government.

The former colony's thirty licensed casino establishments produced $3.6 billion in the span of three months through June, a substantial increase from over the same time a year ago, according to the statement by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau that can be found on their official website.

Bigger baccarat profits from high-roller, improved more than fifty-two percent to $2.5 billion, were the largest gainers. New casino facilities like the Sands' Venetian Macau, which opened to the public last August 2007, are pushing for the game heavily. Gaming analysts said that fewer tourists from mainland China-the majority of Macau gaming customers-after the Sichuan earthquake on May 2008 affected revenues a little.

The 7.9 magnitude earthquake killed seventy thousand people and left eighteen thousand missing and unaccounted for. The Macau tourist office said that the number of tourists' arrivals from mainland China dropped from around 1.55 million visitors in May to 1.36 million visitors in June. The number of mainland tourists improved in June.

The government said that just last year, Macau casinos earned $10.3 billion. The former colony surpassed the Las Vegas strip as the top gaming destination in the world in just a span of two years.
