Craps Lay Bet

A Lay bet is when a player bets that a 7 will be rolled before the specific number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) that the player chooses is rolled. Lay bets may be made only after a shooters come-out roll. Lay bets pay true odds, but players must pay a vig. (vigorish) fee of 5% of the winnings.

The house advantage varies depending on the number the player placed a Lay bet on:

Odds: 1:2 House edge: 2.44% Odds: 2:3 House edge: 3.23% Odds: 5:6 House edge: 4.00%
Place 4 or 10
Place 5 or 9
Place 6 or 8

Ex: If a player bets $40 on the 4 or 10, if he wins, he will get back $60. However, there is still the 5% vig to be paid, which in this case is $1 because the winnings totaled $20.

craps Lay Bets may be reduced if they are unresolved. This type of bet is not the most profitable in this gambling game since the house edge is very high. See our Craps Betting Types Guides for other more rewarding Craps bets.
