Mashpee Tribe Unveils Casino Plans

On September 13th, 2007, the developers for the planned casino in Middleborough are currently planning a large facility with a gaming floor bigger than the casinos that are in the neighboring state of Connecticut.

The 400,000 ft gaming space is included in the casino plan of the Mashpee Tribe and its developers that has been given to the U.S. Department of the Interior, which must then decide on the plan.

The gambling floor of the Mashpee casino is bigger than the gaming space of the Foxwoods casino and the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. The 850,000 ft gambling complex that will be build in 550 acres of land would feature a convention center that can accommodate 10,000 people, 180 casino table games and 4,000 slot machines.

Gambling analyst Clyde Barrow from the University of Massachusetts said that the size of the gaming space of the Mashpee casino must be planned to expand their a later on because there is a lot of room at the gaming complex.

The Foxwoods casino in Connecticut currently has 7,200 slot machines with plans to add 1,500 more. The casino plan states that there is $1.5 billion untapped market in New England.

The spokesman for the tribe, Scott Ferson said that the casino plan explains all of their intent and purposes. The casino plan was developed by Sol Kerzner and Len Wolman who made the Mohegan Sun plans. The casino is built in collaboration with the Mashpee Tribe.

Legislators must still decide on whether to allow the casino. Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick is expected to announce his decision on the issue next week. Middleborough has decided to allow the casino in exchange for $7 million annually.
