MGM Mirage to Accept The Freedom Award on September 21st

MGM Mirage Hotel and Casino is one of the 15 recipients of the 2006 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. MGM has already earned a Valuable Employee Approval Award.

This announcement was made by the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Defense Department agency. The Freedom Awards will be presented by ESGR to all 15 recipients in the ceremony on September 21st at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington D.C.

The employees nominated their employer, Jeff Ellis, Chief Financial Officer of Corporate Benefits, for the MGM Mirage Hotel and Casino to have the Freedom Award.

According to Ellis, "We had seven or eight employees that sent in nominations. I don't know which one was the one that got us the award. They're very happy that (the employees) felt strong enough about our policy to actually nominate us for these awards." Ellis said that the MGM officials are very pleased with the recognition.

Ellis added, "Whatever benefits they've selected as an employee, we continue them." According to MGM Mirage's policy, they continue to pay in full and give benefits to any employees called to active duty.

There is a 70,000 person workforce in the hotel and gambling casino. The positions range from security, information technology to management. 110 are even members of the military reserve components.

"We don't want them to have to worry about their families or the loved ones they've left behind. We want our employees, our people that are called to active duty, to really concentrate on what they're doing over there," Ellis said.
