Nevada Gaming Control Board Requires English Speaking Attendants

The Nevada Gaming Control Board now requires casinos and other gambling facilities that possess gambling licenses in Nevada to have an English speaking attendant on their gambling floors.

The gaming board instructs casinos that offer 5 or more h to have an attendant that knows how to communicate in English.

Las Vegas is seeing a surge of Hispanic population from Mexican communities and California. Hence, English speaking players are supposedly experiencing a communication problem at smaller establishments.

The move to require an English attendant at the casino gambling premises met opposition from the American Civil Liberties Union, which claimed that the gaming board decision might taint its relationship to Spanish speaking people.

According to the gaming board, the communication problem in Las Vegas casinos may not be as bad as the problem in online casinos where the customer service support group is sometimes staffed by people who use broken English.

Nonetheless, the move was influenced by an incident in Cantina El Jaripeo, a small Reno bar that offers slot machines but does not have any English speaking attendants. Subsequently, the gaming board required the bar to ensure that from now on an English speaking attendant should be present in the slot gaming area at all times.
