Majestic Star Casino's Don Barden is Confident Pittsburgh Plans Will Go Ahead

On March 24, 2007, Don Barden, the person behind the casino plans in Pittsburgh, commented that he is confident enough that his Majestic Star Casino plans will go ahead despite the lawsuits that have been filed by losing gambling casino license applicants, like the Isle of Capri.

The Isle of Capri promised to build a new ice hockey arena for the Pittsburgh Penguins if they would be recognized as one of the casino licensees, but the Pennsylvania Gaming Board still awarded the licenses to the Majestic Star Casino and the Bethlehem Casino.

The losing applicants made the challenge regarding the awarding of the licenses before the court. Don Barden made his comments during the African-American convention held in Oakland that day. Barden is firm in his belief that they will win the case and that the case filed by the losing applicants has no grounds.

Barden is hoping to open the Majestic Star Casino in the summer of 2008, but that planned opening may be pushed back depending on the decision of the court in the case. The Majestic Star Casino intends to build a 2 story atrium made with glass and a riverfront amphitheater that can accommodate 1,000 people, restaurants and shops.
